Leaders in India’s Human Resource industry are forecasting a significant transformation through the adoption of agentic AI technologies, with expectations of a 383% increase by 2027. This prediction is based on a recent report by American cloud-based software company Salesforce, which surveyed 200 global HR executives. The report highlights that digital labor is evolving from a mere trend to a revolutionary business strategy.
Agentic AI, defined as technology enabling AI agents to operate autonomously without human oversight, is projected to bring about a 41.7% productivity gain over the next two years. The findings reveal that Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) in India are preparing to redeploy nearly a quarter (24.7%) of their workforce as they embrace digital labor.
The study also underscores a growing emphasis on AI reskilling programs, with 88% of HR leaders planning to reskill their workforce to remain competitive in a market dominated by AI agents. Additionally, 81% of these leaders acknowledge the increasing importance of soft skills such as relationship-building and collaboration as humans work alongside AI agents.
Despite these advances, only 12% of Indian CHROs report full implementation of agentic AI within their organizations. A significant portion, 63%, indicate that employees are still unaware of how digital labor will impact their roles. As agentic AI continues to reshape the workplace and the necessary skills, understanding how HR leaders are ensuring organizational resilience becomes crucial.
Nathalie Scardino, President and Chief People Officer at Salesforce, emphasizes the transformative nature of this shift, stating, “We’re in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime transformation of work with digital labor that is unlocking new levels of productivity, autonomy, and agency at a speed never before thought possible.” According to Scardino, every industry must redesign jobs, reskill, and redeploy talent, and every employee will need to learn new human, agent, and business skills to thrive in this digital labor revolution.
The research highlights that 85% of HR leaders in India believe that within five years, most workforces will consist of humans and AI agents working collaboratively. However, the urgency of digital labor adoption is evident, as many Indian HR chiefs are still in the preliminary stages of workforce preparation.
With 88% of businesses yet to embrace agentic AI, CHROs in India are focusing their short-term efforts on AI implementation, including investments in IT and research and development. This proactive approach is essential for ensuring that organizations remain competitive and capable of navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by the digital labor revolution.
