In an effort to enhance the quality of human resources in Indonesia, Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, has called for inclusive measures that eliminate gender-based discrimination. She emphasized that the Indonesian Constitution of 1945 guarantees equal justice for all citizens, irrespective of gender. Speaking at a recent discussion titled ‘Inspiration for Indonesian Women to be Resilient, Independent, and Successful,’ Tan highlighted the equal rights enshrined in the Constitution and reinforced by the Pancasila’s fifth precept, which upholds justice.
Tan noted that the Asta Cita’s fourth point, stressed by the president and vice president, underscores the importance of strengthening human resources as Indonesia prepares for its ambitious Golden Generation 2045 vision. She asserted that the development of human resources must start within families, the fundamental units of society, and should be free from gender biases.
“Enhancing human resource quality must be done without gender discrimination. Both men and women must have equal opportunities to grow and thrive,” Tan stated. This commitment aligns with the government’s ongoing initiatives to support the Golden Generation vision, aiming to transform Indonesia into an advanced nation by 2045. Central to these efforts is encouraging women’s active participation across various sectors by implementing policies that ensure equal access and boost motivation and opportunities.
One such policy is the affirmative action on women’s political representation, articulated in Law No. 7 of 2017. However, Tan pointed out that the real challenge is in the application of these policies in day-to-day life. She stressed the pivotal role families play in instilling a mindset that embraces equal access, reiterating that families are the smallest unit of a nation.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the significant impact of women who venture into entrepreneurship, join the workforce, and contribute economically. Such engagement not only supports their families but also aligns with the broader Golden Generation vision. By fostering an environment where both men and women can participate equally, Indonesia can better position itself for global competitiveness.
With a focus on inclusive human resource development, the government’s approach is expected to pave the way for a more equitable society, ensuring that both genders contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
