Leaders in the Human Resource sector in India are forecasting a substantial increase in the adoption of agentic AI, projecting a growth of 383 percent by the year 2027. This insight comes from a recent report by American cloud-based software company Salesforce, which conducted a survey involving 200 global human resource executives. The survey highlights that digital labor is more than just a fleeting trend; it signifies a transformative business strategy.
Agentic AI, a technology enabling AI agents to operate autonomously without human oversight, is set to revolutionize workplace productivity. Over the next two years, the implementation of AI agents is expected to result in a productivity boost of 41.7 percent. Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) in India are preparing to redeploy nearly a quarter of their workforce as their organizations begin to embrace digital labor.
A significant 88 percent of HR leaders are planning to reskill their workforce to remain competitive in an AI-driven market. The study brings attention to the increasing emphasis on AI reskilling programs. Furthermore, 81 percent of these leaders concur that soft skills such as relationship-building and collaboration will become even more crucial as humans and AI agents work together.
Despite the promising outlook, only 12 percent of Indian CHROs report that their organizations have fully implemented agentic AI. A large portion of employees, over 60 percent, remain unaware of the impact that AI agents could have on their work. As agentic AI continues to reshape workplace dynamics and the skills required for success, understanding the strategies HR leaders are employing to ensure organizational resilience is of utmost importance.
Nathalie Scardino, President and Chief People Officer at Salesforce, describes the current phase as a “once-in-a-lifetime transformation of work with digital labor,” unlocking unprecedented levels of productivity, autonomy, and agency. She emphasizes the need for every industry to redesign jobs, reskill, and redeploy talent, as well as for every employee to acquire new human, agent, and business skills to thrive in this digital labor revolution.
Key insights from the research indicate that HR leaders in India see digital labor as the future, and its integration is vital to their roles. Approximately 85 percent believe that within five years, most workforces will feature a collaboration between humans and AI agents/digital labor.
Despite the urgency, many Indian HR chiefs are still in the initial stages of workforce preparation for this shift. With 88 percent of businesses yet to implement agentic AI, CHROs in India are focusing their short-term efforts on AI implementation, including IT and research and development. The journey towards widespread adoption of agentic AI is just beginning, but the anticipation and preparation for its integration are evident among HR leaders.
