New Leadership Joins The Arc Westchester
The Arc Westchester, the largest nonprofit organization in Westchester County supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, has announced two major leadership appointments. Dan Bell has been named Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and Melissa Strauss has stepped into the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
These appointments are part of a larger strategic effort to enhance the organization’s impact and operational effectiveness. Bell joined the organization earlier this year, while Strauss officially assumed her role on November 10.
Dan Bell Brings Decades of Financial Expertise
Dan Bell begins his new position with more than 18 years of experience in nonprofit finance. His career was launched at The Arc – Oneida-Lewis Chapter, and he has since held several key leadership roles in finance. Most recently, Bell served as Vice President of Internal Review, Budget and Analysis at Upstate Cerebral Palsy, which is now known as Upstate Caring Partners.
Throughout his career, Bell has held progressive positions, including Associate Vice President of Accounting/Assistant Controller and Vice President of Finance. He earned a B.S. in Accounting (summa cum laude) and an MBA in Professional Accountancy from Utica College.
“I’m honored to join an organization with such a deep history and meaningful mission,” said Bell. “I look forward to supporting the exceptional work being done every day on behalf of the people we serve.”
Melissa Strauss to Lead HR Strategy and Culture
Melissa Strauss brings a robust background in human resources and employee engagement to her new role. She most recently served as Senior Director of Employee Engagement and Culture at a prominent renewable energy company. There, she led initiatives to strengthen workplace culture, inclusivity, and employee satisfaction.
Her professional experience spans multiple HR domains, including operations, talent development, and strategic planning. In addition to her corporate achievements, Strauss is highly active in the Westchester community. She currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Westchester Human Resource Management Association and contributes to several civic and professional organizations.
“I’m excited to contribute to a mission-driven organization where people are at the heart of everything,” said Strauss. “Together, we will strengthen a workplace culture that supports growth, collaboration, and excellence.”
A Vision for the Future
The Arc Westchester’s CEO, Tibi Guzmán, expressed enthusiastic support for the new appointments. “We are delighted to welcome Dan and Melissa to our leadership team,” Guzmán said. “Dan’s strong financial expertise and Melissa’s strategic, people-centered leadership will significantly enhance our ability to serve individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across Westchester.”
As CFO and CHRO, Bell and Strauss will play integral roles in shaping the organization’s long-term strategy. Their responsibilities will include ensuring sound financial management, advancing workforce development, and fostering a culture of inclusion and empowerment.
The appointments come at a time when The Arc Westchester is expanding its initiatives to meet evolving community needs. With Bell’s financial acumen and Strauss’s passion for people and culture, the organization is poised to reach new heights in service delivery and organizational excellence.
