In a recent report by Salesforce, a global cloud-based software company, Indian HR leaders predict a remarkable 383 per cent growth in the adoption of agentic AI by 2027. This technology empowers AI agents to operate autonomously, without human oversight, marking a pivotal shift in the human resources domain.
The survey, encompassing 200 global HR executives, highlights that digital labor is not merely a trend but a transformative business strategy. Over the next two years, expectations are set for AI agent adoption to escalate, potentially yielding a productivity increase of 41.7 per cent.
Key Insights from the Report
The findings underscore that Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) in India plan to redeploy nearly a quarter (24.7 per cent) of their workforce as their organizations embrace digital labor. A significant 88 per cent of HR chiefs intend to reskill their employees to remain competitive in a market shaped by AI agents. This trend accentuates the growing focus on AI reskilling programs.
Moreover, 81 per cent of these leaders acknowledge the heightened importance of soft skills such as relationship-building and collaboration, as humans increasingly work alongside AI agents. However, 88 per cent of organizations are yet to implement agentic AI, and 63 per cent of employees remain unaware of the implications of digital labor on their roles.
Transforming the Workplace
Agentic AI is poised to reshape the workplace, demanding new skills for success. Understanding how HR leaders are steering their organizations toward resilience is crucial. Nathalie Scardino, President and Chief People Officer at Salesforce, emphasized, “We’re in the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime transformation of work with digital labor that is unlocking new levels of productivity, autonomy, and agency at a speed never before thought possible.”
Scardino further highlighted the necessity for industries to redesign jobs, reskill, and redeploy talent. Employees must learn new human, agent, and business skills to thrive in this digital labor revolution.
Future Outlook for Digital Labor
The research reveals that HR leaders in India view digital labor as the future, integral to their roles. About 85 per cent believe that within five years, most workforces will comprise humans and AI agents working together.
Despite the urgency, many Indian HR chiefs are still in the early stages of preparing their workforce. Only 12 per cent of Indian CHROs report full implementation of agentic AI, and more than 60 per cent indicate that employees are still unaware of the impact of AI agents on their work.
Efforts Directed Towards AI Implementation
With 88 per cent of businesses yet to embrace agentic AI, CHROs in India are focusing their near-term efforts on AI implementation, including IT and research and development. This strategic direction highlights the transitional phase Indian HR leaders are navigating as they prepare for a future where digital labor becomes a cornerstone of operational efficiency.
